چکیده

Service Level Agreements require a monitoring system that checks that no party violates the agreement. Current monitoring techniques either have a high performance overhead or are not reliable enough. This paper proposes a new theoretical hybrid monitoring system that we call reactive monitoring. It tries to balance the disadvantages of established monitoring techniques, in particular online and offline monitoring. Online monitoring has a relatively high performance overhead and offline monitoring does not identify all possible violations. Reactive monitoring combines online monitoring, which is used for reactively checking continuous SLA properties with a new passive monitoring scheme. This scheme is used for monitoring discrete SLA properties. It is based on cryptographic primitives that provide proof that either a certain stage in an interaction has been reached correctly with all participants in compliance of the service level agreements or that a violation has occurred. In the latter case the violating party can be identified. A theoretical analysis shows that in the worst case scenario this new approach has the same overhead as online monitoring techniques and in most cases the overhead will be significantly lower.

Reputation-Based Service Level Agreements for Web Services

Most web services need to be contracted through service level agreements that typically specify a certain quality of service (QoS) in return for a certain price. We propose a new form of service level agreement where the price is determined by the QoS actually delivered. We show that such agreements make it optimal for the service provider to deliver the service at the promised quality. To allo...

Monitoring of Service Level Agreements with exible and extensible Agents

In a customer/provider relationship a provider o ers services to users who pay for using them. To control service delivery certain Quality of Service (QoS) parameters have to be agreed through so called Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Monitoring of some of these QoS parameters only makes sense when done from the customer site. In a cooperation project we developed a exible and extensible agent...

Monitoring Middleware for Service Level Agreements in Heterogeneous Environments

Monitoring of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) is required to determine if the Quality of Service (QoS) provided by a service provider satisfies the expectations of a service consumer. Although tools exist that can generate the software required to evaluate SLAs from the SLA specifications themselves, the code required to gather metric data is still predominantly coded by hand: a time consuming ...

Grid Service Level Agreements Combining Resource Reservation and Predictive Run-time Adaptation

Resource reservation and performance prediction of execution run-times are key components in delivering timely application services for decision support systems. The provision of Service Level Agreements (SLA) and components to manage tasks such as resource negotiation, monitoring and policing are needed to help meet this requirement. This paper presents an SLA management architecture for use i...
